About

Mac has been a butcher, a baker , and a candle stick maker. He has served in the Royal Australian Navy as a Petty Officer Cook. When he left the Navy he became a linesman with Telecom (now known as Telstra). Mac has been married since 1970 and has just celebrated 40 years of marriage to his best friend Julie McKenzie. They have 3 children, Christopher, Sarah and Carlie & 7 grandchildren Joshua, Nicola, Mathew, Samuel, Jessica, Fletcher and Claire. Plus two other "adopted grandkids" Jossie and Dan. Married life started in Albany Creek, Brisbane.  In 1982 the family moved to a small country town, Mt Tyson on the Darling Downs, where they had bought a genral store. It was here after leaving Telecom that Mac excelled in his cooking abilities, winning over the locals with his wonderful Apple Strudels, Salads and Pizzas and many other cullinery delights. At the beginning of their adventure in the store he was also working at Telecom in Toowoomba but soon left to work full time in the shop. In 1991 after 11 years in the shop they decided it was time to find a different way of life for the family and moved to Pittworth where Mac took over the local Hospital kitchen and started turning the food into beautiful reastuarant quality meals for the locals, who were very appreicitve whilst being in hospital. After a few years here it was time once again to move on to another chapter of their life and it was decided that the Sunshine Coast would be the next port of call. Here Mac and Julie took over cooking at the Alexandra Park Conference Centre at Alexander Headlands.
In 1995 as a result of suffering from a mental illness which included having PTSD, Major Depression and other illnesses, Mac had to take early retirement. By this stage they had moved to Bli Bli where they took up residence.

Along with Macs many talents he has become an avid gardener. With his artistic flare he created a wonderful rainforest garden out of a blank canvas of a yard.  Mac and Julie also took over the publication of the local community paper, The Bli Bli Bulletin, where they increased the earnings for the community organisation and made it into a wonderful asset that the Bli Bli community could be very proud to call their own. It was whilst producing the Bulletin that Mac was able fulfill his life long passion for Photography. He has now been able to invest in a wonderful camera that will allow him to reach his full potential as a photographer.
